  • Back in My Day...

This Weekend in Hedonism (Segment 2)

  • Cheryl's Recipe Corner!
  • One-Pot Ten-Minute Beef and Broccoli
  • Description
    • I admit, I'm all about finding a quick and easy meal... because there are some days that I just don't want to spend hours in the kitchen cooking a meal.  And this is one of those, "Quick and Easy" meals, with an Asian flair.  And we love our Asian foods!  We've not tried this one yet, but it's on our "to do" list.
  • Ingredients
    • 1 lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef
    • 1 bag (12 oz) frozen chopped broccoli
    • 1 bunch chopped green onions, greens and whites separated
    • 3 cups cold cooked white rice
    • 1 cup thick teriyaki marinade and sauce
  • Directions
    • In nonstick 5-quart Dutch oven, cook beef with salt to taste over medium-high heat, stirring frequently, until brown. Do not drain. Meanwhile, make broccoli as directed on bag. Add whites of green onions to pan with beef, and cook 1 minute. Stir in rice and teriyaki sauce. Cook and stir about 2 minutes or until rice is heated through. Stir in broccoli. Top with green onion tops.
  • Cheryl's Mixed Drink Corner
  • Tequila Sunrise
  • Description
    • Russ makes a tasty Tequila Sunrise, so I thought I'd share the recipe for this great summery drink!
  • Ingredients
    • 2 ounces (4 tablespoons) tequila
    • 4 ounces (1/2 cup) orange juice
    • 3/4 ounce (1-1/2 tablespoons) grenadine syrup
    • Ice
    • For the garnish: Cocktail cherry, orange slice
  • Directions
    • Fill a highball glass with ice. Pour in the tequila and orange juice and stir. Pour the grenadine into center of the drink and it will sink to the bottom. Stir gently for sunrise gradient effect. Garnish with an orange slice and cocktail cherry. This drink is sweetly straightforward. Add a squeeze of lime to add more of a tart flavor. A dash of orange liqueur like Cointreau can give it a little more complexity. You can also make a Tequila Sunset by substituting blackberry brandy for the grenadine. Make the drink with vodka for a Vodka Sunset, or try a Malibu Sunset using Malibu Coconut Rum.

  • Bradshaw Kentucky Straight Bourbon
  • Description
    • Batch 0005. Four Super Bowl victories was no ordinary feat, but then Terry Bradshaw was no ordinary player. So it makes sense that Terry Bradshaw Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is anything but ordinary. Bradshaw Bourbon is a collaboration between Bradshaw and Silver Screen Bottling Company, which is known for bottling several celebrity liquors. The bourbon is bottled at an ABV of 51.9% which is a nod to his career passing completion percentage. Batch 212 is a reference to his career TD passing total. Aged two years.

Show Notes #465: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS Deep Dive

Listen Now

Segment 1 (Deep Dive)

  • Jammy Jellyfish - Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
  • Topics
    • What's new (from the Ubuntu Blog https://lhs.fyi/zo )?
    • Linux desktop performance has had a massive upgrade for this release. Thanks to work on GNOME triple buffering, Intel and Raspberry Pi graphics drivers will now see up to double the frame rate when navigating the desktop. We also see significant improvements when using AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards as well as runtime power management for NVIDIA GPUs. Wayland is now the default display server for most systems, whilst X11 remains the default for those with NVIDIA GPUs.
    • GNOME 42 also brings new power profile options, allowing users to choose between performance and power consumption from the settings screen.
    • As always, Ubuntu comes with a host of other tweaks and updates in addition to these headline features.
    • PulseAudio delivers a number of improvements for Bluetooth headsets, with support for a wider range of devices and battery level reporting.
    • LibreOffice, Thunderbird and Firefox have all been updated to the latest versions. And Firefox now ships as a snap, published by Mozilla.
    • Developers also have access to the latest toolchains for Python, Ruby, Perl, Go, PHP and now Rust. Rust is a new addition for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, supporting memory-safe, systems-level programming.

  • Rossville Union Rye Barrel Proof
  • Description
    • It began in 1847 with a bold, satisfying taste that would make Indiana the rye capital of the world. For nearly 200 years, Lawrenceburg's master distillers and blenders have been perfecting the original handcrafted rye blends in one of America's last Prohibition-era distilleries. Rossville Union is a return to the golden age of rye with an authentic taste that could only come from Whiskey City.

  • Glendalough Double Barrel Irish Whiskey
  • Description
    • Upon its release, this whiskey won double gold at The World Spirits Competition in San Francisco. It really is an Irish whiskey that will make you think twice about Irish whiskey. A lovely, light and drinkable whiskey, it's also complex with a depth of flavour beyond its years. Aged twice in barrels from far sides of the world, the flavours are a game of two halves. American oak Bourbon barrels bring sweet honey and smooth vanilla notes, laying down the foundations of the flavours. The Spanish oak Oloroso barrels layer on dried fruit, and nutty flavours. To find the best Oloroso casks, we go off the beaten track to the small Andalusian town of Montilla, home of the famous PX grape. Here we can talk one on one with producers, chose the bodega, the liquid, the time seasoning, and eventually the casks. This gives us more influence on the flavours in our Double Barrel whiskey.
