Notes: Many leading contesters claim the WAEDC to be the most challenging contest of the year. Being a true blue DX contest, only intercontinental QSOs between DX and Europe are counted (exception is the RTTY part). Therefore the number of DX QSOs here may be similar to the amount of DX usually worked in the CQWW.

1/2 c. butter, softened
1-1/2 c. sugar
1-3/4 (3 or 4) ripe bananas, mashed
2 tsp. vanilla extract
2 c. all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda

Heat oven to 375F. Grease and flour 15x10-inch jelly roll pan. For the bars, in a large bowl, beat together sugar, sour cream, butter, and eggs until creamy. Blend in bananas and vanilla extract. Add flour, baking soda, salt, and blend for 1 minute. Stir in walnuts. Spread batter evenly into pan. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Meanwhile, for frosting, heat butter in a large saucepan over medium heat until boiling. Let the butter turn a delicate brown and remove from heat immediately. Add powdered sugar, vanilla extract and milk. Whisk together until smooth (it should be thicker than a glaze but thinner than frosting). Using a spatula, spread the brown butter frosting over the warm bars (the frosting will be easier to spread while the bars are still warm).

Notes: This event will run for 7 days and be around July 4th of each year. Make as many contacts as you can during the week using 6 modes. Scoring will be as normal for QSO Parties, 2 points for members and 1 point for non members. Dupes will be allowed once for each mode. It will be possible to work the same call 6 times in each of the various modes for a maximum total of 12 points per call. All other normal rules apply. This will also allow members to work on their Lucky 13 Award at the same time we are creating activity over the entire 10 meter spectrum. If band conditions are poor, and we all concentrate on the same frequencies, we have a much better chance of making contacts. The various Chapter Nets will have the opportunity after their nets to schedule some contacts for the various modes. During the Daily Nets we could schedule some activity when they are finished. Win1010 has been modified to score this event. Another program, 10QSOLogger will also work for this event. The QSO Party Log Form and QSO Party Cover Sheet from the Key Forms Page of this web site may be used. Electronic logs shall beforwarded to the QSO Party Manager at tentencontest@ten-ten.org.

Cheryl's Recipe Corner!
Quick and Easy Lo Mein
Description
Bill from the ICQ podcast put me on the spot, at Hamvention, when they interviewed us and asked if I had a recipe. After they posted the video to YouTube, I posted the following recipe in the video comments. SO... I decided to share it with our listeners as well! I'm a HUGE fan of Lo Mein. This is a quick and easy recipe, that takes less than 30 minutes from start to finish.
Ingredients (Sauce)
2 tablespoons Dark soy sauce*
1 tablespoon Light soy sauce*
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 teaspoon sugar
* If you can't find light and dark soy sauce, use 3 tablespoons of whatever style you have.
Ingredients (Lo Mein)
4–6 ounces uncooked Lo Mein noodles (or substitute Spaghetti Noodles)
1 tablespoon vegetable or sesame oil (to stir-fry protein)
3 green onions, chopped (separate green parts from white parts – you’ll use both separately)
2–3 cups julienne cut or chopped vegetables like carrots / green, red and/or yellow bell peppers / cabbage / bok choy / mushrooms / broccoli / onion / snap peas / fresh spinach (use whatever you desire!)
1–2 tablespoons Mirin
Directions (Sauce)
Shake all the sauce ingredients together in a jar.
Direcitons (Noodles)
Cook the noodles according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
Directions (Protein)
Heat the first serving of vegetable or sesame oil in a large wok or skillet. Stir fry protein, then remove from heat and set aside.
Directions (Lo Mein)
Heat the 2nd mention of sesame oil in a large wok or skillet. Add the green onions (white parts) and vegetables to the hot pan. Stir fry until fork-tender, about 5 minutes. Add the mirin to loosen the browned bits up off the bottom of the pan. Add protein back into the pan, then add the cooked noodles and about half of the sauce – toss around in the hot pan to combine. Add more sauce if needed (I usually gauge the amount of sauce I want by the color of the noodles – you want a medium brown color, not too light, not too dark). Serve topped with remaining green onions! NOTE: When a recipe calls for mirin, the Japanese sweet rice wine, you need a combination of acidic and sweet flavors. Add a pinch of sugar to 2 tablespoons of white wine, vermouth, or dry sherry to replace the mirin.
